Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are your plans regarding COVID 19 protocols? Will masks be required all season? Will broomstacking be allowed?
A: Everyone who enters our facility is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID 19. Unvaccinated people are not allowed in the building, with no exceptions. At this time masks are not required while curling or broomstacking, though masks and social distancing are still encouraged. We are playing by normal USCA rules, however we ask that if anyone prefers to be a lone sweeper for social distancing purposes, that their teammates respect that wish. Our COVID committee is monitoring the situation and the guidelines set by the CDC and the New York State Health Department, and the rules are subject to change with based on the most recent information.
Q: I have never curled before and would like to learn. What are my options to learn to curl?
A: We will be offering a number of Open Houses, and Learn-to-Curl sessions throughout thr 2021-2022 season. They are listed under the "Try Curling" menu on our website and registration is now open for all events. We also offer dates for private parties/events. For more information about private events, visit the "Private Events" option of the "Try Curling" menu on our website.
Q: I just started curling. What leagues would be appropriate for me?
A: We strongly recommend that you register for one of our 3 session Learn-to-Curl classes. In these three 2 hour sessions, you will work with our certified instructors to learn the basic skills, techniques, rules and etiquette of the game. On Saturday and Sunday mornings we also offer instructional leagues that are perfect for new curlers, though all of our leagues accept curlers of all skill levels. With the exception of our Monday night (competitive) league and the doubles league, you register for leagues as an individual curler. Teams are created to be as even as possible with a mix of new and experienced curlers. We also offer a drop-in (pick up game) league on Sunday afternoons, which is very low key and a great place to learn the game. League descriptions and contact information can be found HERE.
Q: My child is interested in curling and has never curled before. What are the options for a junior to learn to curl?
A: Our Juniors league (ages 12-18) meets Sundays from 12:30-2:30 pm. To register a new junior, follow the instructions for New Members on our home page. Please note: Junior curlrs must also be fully vaccinated.
Q: Will you offer corporate events or private parties?
A: We will be offering to host private events on designated dates and times. For more information about private events, visit the "Private Events" option of the "Try Curling" menu on our website.
Q: How will I know if there is a spot available for the league I am interested in joining?
A: We do our best to accommodate all members who sign up for each league. If any of our leagues fill up to maximum capacity before the start of the season, we will remove that league as an option in the registration process. If you register after the opening of the season (after October 4th), you should contact the league chair. League descriptions and contact information can be found HERE.
Q: What volunteers are needed this year?
A: As always, we will need volunteers to:
- Staff the warm room and ice for open houses, learn-to-curls, and private events
- help with bonspiels (food prep, clean-up, ice maintenance and equipment sanitization)
- Pebble and nip for leagues
Q: If I am not curling this season but I would like to support the club by donating all or part of my membership fee to the club, how do I do this?
A: The easiest way is to use the "Donations/Partial Dues/Other Payments" form located under Membership Forms when you log in to the website. This will allow you to make a tax-deductible donation via PayPal or credit card. If you wish to join as an associate member, register and pay through the "Register Now" link on the Members' home page. If you wish to be an associate member and donate more than the associate member fee, register and pay as an associate member and then pay the amount you would like to donate through the "Donations/Partial Dues/Other Payments" form. If you are not an Ardsley Curling Club member and wish to donate, you can make a tax-deductible donation to the club or the building fund by clicking on the link on our home page.
Q: Did the 2020-2021 season count against my 5 and under eligibility?
A: No. When the GNCC announced its decision to cancel all of its annual 5 and under events for that season, they ruled that the 2020-2021 season will not count toward anyone's 5 and under eligibility.
